Han Jing Railway was originally named Luhan Railway. During the Republic of China, Beijing was called Beiping, so it was also called Pinghan Railway.

After obtaining the direct management rights of the three northeastern provinces and the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, Russia and France colluded to win over the Belgian joint-stock company and obtained the loan right of the Luhan Railway (Lugouqiao to Hankou). The Lugouqiao-Baoding section of Lu Han Railway was originally handed over to the Belgian company by the Qing government in June 1897. After the Belgian company took over, the southern end was changed to Hankou Jade Belt Gate; The starting point of the northern end was changed to Beijing Xibianmen to Zhengyangmen (Qianmen) West Station.
