Zhang (1606-1647), whose real name is Bingwu, was born in Liuqu Village, Haotan Township, Dingbian County, Shaanxi Province on September 18th, the thirty-fourth year of Ming Wanli. China was the leader of the peasant uprising army in the late Ming Dynasty and the founder of the Daxi regime. Zhang was born in poverty, and in the third year of Chongzhen (1630), he responded to the uprising with Mizhi Chai Dog Village, calling himself the Eight Kings, and later formed his own army. In the seventh year of Chongzhen (1634), he led the troops to attack Xinyang and Dengzhou, and entered Yingshan (now Hubei).
The following year, he and Gao Yingxiang made a big crusade to Henan, Hubei and Anhui. In the 11th year of Chongzhen (1638), he fought and lost in Yunxi (now Hubei) against Zuo Liangyu and Chen Hongfan, the generals of the Ming Dynasty. He was recruited by Xiong Wencan, the minister of the Ming Ministry of War, and stationed in Gucheng (now Hubei). Uprising again the following year. In the sixteenth year of Chongzhen (1643), qi zhou and Qishui (now Qichun and Xishui in Hubei) were conquered, and Huangzhou (now Huanggang in Hubei) was called the Western King.
