The running of Hunan Agricultural University began with the completion school established on June 8th, 1903.

Hunan Agricultural University started from a private school founded on June 8, 1903, and went through the stages of Hunan Private Higher Agricultural Vocational School, Hunan Agricultural College and Hunan Agricultural College. 1951March, Hunan Agriculture and Forestry College and Hunan University Agricultural College merged to form Hunan Agricultural College; In June of the same year+10, President Mao Zedong wrote the name of the school in his own handwriting. Postgraduates begin to enroll students 1978. 1987 began to recruit doctoral students.

The school has 22 colleges, 1 independent college, graduate school and continuing education college, covering agriculture, engineering, literature, science, economics, management, law, medicine, teaching, art and other disciplines 10. National key discipline 1, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs key discipline 1, two world-class cultivation disciplines in Hunan Province, and eight key disciplines in the Tenth Five-Year Plan of Hunan Province.
