In the twenty-seventh year of Daoguang (1847), he served as a candidate in Beijing. After the final exam, he was transferred to Jiangnan Road (now Jiangsu and Anhui provinces) to supervise and advise. During his tenure, he dared to speak out and criticized the current abuses by printing several times.
In February of the 29th year of Daoguang (1849), Libu was promoted, so it neglected management and asked the emperor to ban all kinds of "stalls" in various provinces. Although the memorial was timely, it did not attract the attention of the emperor, but was handed over to the relevant departments for "discussion." Then, Mao Hongbin wrote a memorial, reflecting on the situation of "unclear constitutional code and weak punishment" at that time.
In the 29th year of Daoguang (1850), in August, Mao Hongbin was transferred to the Ministry of Military Science. Soon after, his mother died of illness, returned to Li Shouzhi's home, was filial and was transferred to Li's branch.
In the second year of Xianfeng (1852), in April, the Taiping Army marched into Hunan, and the court shook. Shi Mao went to Beijing to make suggestions for the court to suppress the Taiping Army, and was ordered to return to Licheng, Shandong Province, to organize young villagers for military training.

Since the fifth year of Xianfeng (1855), Shi Mao has been a Taoist priest in Hubei for more than three years. Mao Hongbin and Zeng Guofan, the ministers, are the same scholar, the same age, and know each other very well. Zeng Guofan praised Mao's recitation as a golden advice related to national security. Hu Linyi, another minister at that time, wrote an inscription on Mao's memorial manuscript: "Phoenix comes, the heart dominates the world, and the people all over the world have their support!" In the ninth year of Xianfeng (1859), Mao Hongbin was promoted, so Shi Mao was promoted from Anhui provincial judge and Jiangsu governor to Hunan governor.

Mao recommended Changsha magistrate Ding Baozhen to the court. Later, the Qing soldiers invaded Zichuan County, Liu Depei was killed, and Ding Baozhen became famous. As we all know, Ding was recommended by Mao, so he praised Mao for "knowing people". Mao Hongbin recommended many talents for the imperial court. For example, he once recommended Zuo in Shanghai, saying that Zuo had great courage and insight, and if he was entrusted with the important task of protecting the country, he would be able to protect the environment and people. Later, Zuo was reused mainly because of Zeng Guofan's recommendation, but his pioneering work is undeniable.

During the period of 65438+July 6, 0863 -65438+March 7, 0865, he was ordered to replace Yan Duanshu as the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi. The official position, the full name of which is "the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, is the prefect of military affairs, catering and governor affairs", is the supreme ruler of Guangdong and Guangxi provinces and one of the government officials in the Qing Dynasty. He once called a meeting to suppress Taiping rebels.
In the second year of Tongzhi (1863), Mao Hongbin was promoted to governor of Guangdong and Guangxi. Later, Mao returned to his hometown because the court decided that he had neglected his colleagues during his tenure as governor of Hunan and was demoted and recruited. In the sixth year of Tongzhi (1867), the Nian army headed by Lai crossed the Yellow River from Daijiamiao to fight for the provincial capital, and Mao led the militia to help the government. The next year, he died of illness. After Mao Hongbin's death, he was sent to the imperial court by two Shandong governors. The imperial court issued two orders to commend his loyalty, and Zhu approved his kindness and restored his official position. His life story was reported to the museum for biography, and Mao Hongbin's name was written on the memorial tablet and sacrificed to Xiangxian Temple.
