In the second year of Wu Baoding in the Three Kingdoms (267), Yichun County was located in Xinyu County, belonging to Ancheng County. It was named after the middle reaches of Yuanhe River, the main river in Sichuan, formerly known as Yushui.

In the first year of Tianbao (742), due to an incorrect biography, the county name was changed from Chongqing to metaphor, which was later attributed to metaphor.

1957 In May, the State Council announced that the new metaphor was renamed Xinyu, which has been used ever since.
