Wei Xiaoming's Artistic Resume
Wei Xiaoming, male, 1957, from Beihai, Guangxi. Like many children in small towns at that time, his childhood was spent in an environment of cultural isolation and material shortage. At the age of twelve, Wei Xiaoming met a couple of artists from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts by chance. They were sent to Beihai because of the Cultural Revolution. The artist and his wife devoted themselves to teaching Wei Xiaoming, who had always loved painting, so that he learned the basic skills of painting, such as formal sketching, and laid a solid foundation for his artistic career.

/kloc-When he was 0/7 years old, Wei Xiaoming went to the countryside with many companions. During his stay in the countryside, Wei Xiaoming has been obsessed with painting. He picked up the brush at any time during the break and devoted himself to the practice of painting skills. He painted all over the country and all the people in the village. 1977, Wei Xiaoming entered Guangxi Art College after returning to the city and won the first place in the professional examination. Huang Guoqiang of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, which enrolled students in Guangxi at that time, was so fond of talents that he immediately negotiated with Guangxi Academy of Arts and Crafts and other relevant departments and directly recruited Wei Xiaoming into the Decoration Department of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. 198 1 graduated and stayed on as a teacher with excellent results.

In 1980s, Wei Xiaoming sent his works to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, including the famous Dark Horse. 1986, Wei Xiaoming became the first graduate student in China since the Royal Academy of Fine Arts was founded 300 years ago. Going abroad in Wei Xiaoming is an eye-opener. Besides attending classes, he often hangs out in museums and is immersed in the profound world of western art. After completing the credits for printmaking, Wei Xiaoming began to study architecture and sculpture, and two years later he got a master's degree.

During his stay in Australia, Wei Xiaoming participated in various exhibitions held in European countries and held solo exhibitions. 1988 won the Austrian "Outstanding Artistic Contribution Award". Eva Ding Fox, a professor at the Vienna Royal Academy of Fine Arts, commented on him: "With his integrity and talent, Wei Xiaoming has moved to the position of an artistic pioneer, and his artistic performances have enriched the Austrian art stage." Many people are emphasizing that creation comes from life. I admit there are some, but I think creation should not focus on the visible life, but more importantly, the life imagined by the creator. Imagination is the most important.

My work looks realistic, but it is very different from the domestic academy of fine arts. They teach visible realism. Simply put, if they want to make a figure sculpture, they must rely on the model, and a specific model must be sketched in front of them before they can create it. And all my works are basically done by imagination, of course, the foundation of these imaginations also needs life.

1992 returned to China to do an exhibition, and the art world reacted, saying that after reading my work, it felt like a European work if I didn't look at the name. But I hold exhibitions in Europe, and Europeans always say that this is China's work. At that time, I had a feeling that I was not on either side. If my works are put in China, people will say that they are very foreign. In Europe, people will say that they have a deep cultural background in China.
