Comrade Wu Zhong is from Cangxi County, Sichuan Province. 1933 joined the Chinese Red Army of Workers and Peasants, joined the Chinese Communist Youth League in the same year, and 1935 was transferred to China. He has served as platoon leader, guerrilla battalion commander, battalion commander, colonel, brigade commander, division commander, commander of Beijing Garrison, and was awarded the rank of Major General by 1955. He is an alternate member of the 9th, 10th and 11th Central Committee of China. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, he participated in Wanyuan Defence War and Jialing River Campaign. On the way to the Long March, I crossed the grassland three times and stood the test of hard struggle. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, guerrilla warfare was carried out behind enemy lines, which contributed to the defense of Hebei, Shandong and Henan anti-Japanese base areas.
