What is the experience of participating in AIDS prevention or education in Africa?
20 1 1 I was lucky enough to be the first batch of China volunteers of VSO (Overseas Volunteer Service). I did volunteer service in Kaduna in northern Nigeria for one year, mainly responsible for the local AIDS project. VSO is a world-renowned independent international development organization, which eliminates poverty in developing countries through voluntary service. At that time, VSO had three major projects: AIDS prevention, basic education construction and poverty alleviation. It is not easy for volunteers to be sent abroad by VSO. According to the standards at that time, every volunteer should have at least six years' working experience in their respective fields, whether as an English teacher or an accountant in financial management, they are expert volunteers with many years' working experience. I was born to study medicine. Before taking part in voluntary activities, I had accumulated enough work experience in the AIDS project of the Global Fund and got the opportunity to apply. After that, the whole process of resume screening, telephone interview and VSO evaluation went smoothly. After attending VSO offline training (now online training), it is a long wait for job matching. The process of matching is like marriage and love matching. The information of volunteers is entered into the database, and the local cooperative organization selects suitable volunteers, and then the VSO project officer judges whether they are suitable or not. If volunteers feel that their working background and working environment are acceptable, they can finalize the matching institutions. 20 1 1 At the end of the year, I accepted the job of SHED (Support for Health and Education Development), a local NGO cooperating with Nigeria, and began to prepare for a one-year trip to Africa, during which VSO helped me to make a series of preparations before going abroad, such as vaccination, round-trip air tickets, international emergency medical insurance and so on. Several of our volunteers will go to the imam's house to pray with him every weekend, and when the conditions are ripe, please ask him to help us publicize it to the public. We have been to his house several times and invited him to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. After slow persuasion, the imam promised to help publicize AIDS prevention measures in the lecture, and also to do safety tests for local people. If someone tests positive, they will be introduced to us. We will contact the hospital according to the actual situation of infected people and their wishes, and then take them to the hospital to tell them what to do, and the hospital will carry out follow-up treatment. We will call infected people at any time, or go to the door at the scene to follow up their treatment. If there are difficulties or problems, we will try our best to solve them. These people trust the Imam very much, and every time they see the Imam after testing positive, they will bow their heads and pray first. Therefore, we are also very supportive of the work of the Imam. We invite the media to do activities and invite the Imam to be interviewed.
