Resume of the 64th Army
In the war of liberation, the three major battles launched by the PLA were the most important. In the Huaihai Campaign, our army annihilated more than 550,000 Kuomintang troops. Although it also paid a great price, it ate the enemy's proud main force and laid the foundation for the later national liberation. The most noteworthy are the Seventh Corps that annihilated Huang in Yaowan Town and the Twelfth Corps that annihilated Huang Wei in Shuangduiji.

Of course, the 12 th Corps of Huang Wei itself belongs to the clique and is well equipped. Huang's Seventh Corps is worse in this respect. This 7th Corps includes the 63rd and 64th Army of Guangdong Military Department in Yu Hanmou, and the 25th Division of Huang's reorganization (later renamed the 25th Army). In addition, there are 100 Li Tianxia's army, and Li Tianxia, who was dismissed in the First World War in Meng Lianggu. Together with the later 44th Army, the 7th Corps has five armies, about 65438+100000 people.

In fact, we can roughly see the composition of this army, because the Seventh Corps itself was established with the 25th Army as the main force, and the 25th Army was born in the Guangdong Army. Therefore, the 63rd Army and the 64th Army were added, but the later 100 Army was not so friendly, which laid the foundation for adowa of the 7th Corps. In terms of personnel appointment, Huang himself has basically not been helped, including the commander of the 63 rd Army.

The 63rd Army was the first army to be annihilated by the Seventh Corps in the Huaihai Campaign. It was first eliminated because it was the most prominent position in the overall campaign of the Seventh Corps. At that time, Huang's Seventh Corps was ordered by Xuzhou to suppress Herry Liu and move closer to the eastern suburbs of Xuzhou. At that time, the 63rd Army was in charge of the rear of the temple. However, due to our quick action, the Kuomintang army was completely unexpected. Just halfway there, the 63rd Army was regarded as the vanguard of our army.

After a fierce battle, the 63rd Army suffered heavy losses (its own equipment was poor). Finally, it had to retreat to Yaowan Town under the leadership of commander Zhang Chen. Due to the overall chaos of the 63 rd Army in the battle, it was quickly surrounded by our army after retreating into Yaowan Town. In just one day, the 63rd Army was wiped out. Seeing that the People's Liberation Army had invaded Yaowan Town, Zhang Chen knew there was nothing he could do, so he committed suicide.

Because the name of the commander of the 25 th Army was Chen at that time, the names of the two were only one word apart. Later, after Chen's death was reported in the newspaper, Chen's relatives and family members thought it was Chen's death. As a matter of fact, Chen experienced many vicissitudes in his childhood, so he managed to escape by dressing up as a farmer. When he got home, he was shocked to see the mourning hall set up for him at home.
