Yan Dongsheng's personal profile
Yan Dongsheng (1918.2.10-2016.9.18), a Shanghainese, is a material scientist with a ancestral home in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and is one of the founders and pioneers of inorganic materials science and technology in China.

/kloc-0 received a doctor's degree in ceramics from the University of Illinois in the United States in 1949;/kloc-0 joined the Jiu San Society in 1956;/kloc-0 joined China in March 1960;/kloc-0 was elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences in 1980;/kloc-0 was elected as the first academician of China Academy of Engineering in 1994.

Extended Information1In the 1950s, Yan Dongsheng studied the preparation of corrosion-resistant and oxidation-resistant inorganic coatings for various metal materials and inorganic high-temperature materials, which helped to double the service life of aircraft engines in China. 1960s, Yan Dongsheng developed a new type of diffusion coating material, and developed key materials and components for attitude control of various satellites in China. /kloc-in the 1970s, he devoted himself to the development of special inorganic composite materials, which provided a material basis for long-range missiles to break through the thermal barrier and develop intercontinental missiles.

When Yan Dongsheng was 90 years old, his project "Large-size Doped Lead Tungstate Scintillation Crystal and Its Preparation Technology" won the second prize of national technological invention. Using this technology, Shanghai Institute of Silicate, China Academy of Sciences has prepared a large number of large-size and high-performance doped lead tungstate crystals by descending method.
