On the fifteenth day of the fourth lunar month, the Buddha is auspicious.
April 15 of the lunar calendar is an auspicious day for the Buddha, also known as Vesak Day.

It is the day when the Buddha was born, enlightened and died. Buddha was born on the full moon in May 624 BC (equivalent to the full moon on April 15 in the summer calendar), and his birthplace is Lumbini, Nepal today. Vesak Day actually commemorates the birth, enlightenment and nirvana of the Buddha on the same day.

Vesak Day is a traditional festival in Southern Buddhism, commemorating the birth, enlightenment and nirvana of Buddha Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism. Buddhists from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal and other Southeast Asian and South Asian countries all held grand celebrations on this important annual festival.

The custom of Sagadawa Festival

From the first day of Sagadawa, crowds of people passed through the meridian on Linkuo Road. On the fifteenth day of the Tibetan calendar, the meridian passage reached its peak, and there was a flood of people from 2 am to night. On this day, Tibetan men, women and children dressed in festive costumes read Buddhist scriptures. April in the Tibetan calendar is the Buddha calendar month, which is called "Sagadawa" in Tibetan.

In this month, Tibetan people all over the country will chant Buddhist scriptures and worship Buddha, and it is forbidden to slaughter livestock and accumulate virtue. Because different sects use different calendars and different specific dates, most sects stipulate April 15 of the Tibetan calendar as Buddha's Birthday every year. Sagadawa Festival is a traditional festival of Tibetan people in Lhasa. It is held every April 15 in Longwangtan Scenic Resort Scenic Area behind the majestic Potala Palace.
