The essence of poverty, the modern version of millionaires and fishermen.
Good evening, friends. Is The Essence of Poverty more brain-burning? What is this book really about?

Tonight, I will talk to you about my thoughts on this book, so as to arouse your thinking.

- 1-

As soon as I saw this book, the first thing I thought of was the story of the rich man and fisherman I had read.

The rich man saw the fisherman.

Rich man: "I'll tell you how to become rich and enjoy life." The fisherman agreed.

Rich man: "first, you need to borrow money to buy a boat to go fishing;"

Secondly, make money to buy more boats and set up fishing companies;

Then the company goes public and uses this money to invest in real estate;

In this way, you will become a billionaire like me. "

"After becoming a billionaire?"

Rich man: "You can go to the seaside for a holiday, bask in the sun, fish and enjoy life like me."

The fisherman seems to realize something: "Then don't you think that I am now the result of those processes you mentioned?"

?

I think this story explains the essence of poverty very well, that is, many poor people don't think they are poor, and the essence of poverty is the poverty of thinking.

The same is true of fishing by the sea. What's the difference between the rich and the poor?

The difference is:

Rich people have strong anti-vulnerability ability, and fishing is leisure. Even if the weather is bad and the harvest is not good, they can still fish.

Fishermen's ability to resist vulnerability is weak, fishing is survival, and weather, harvest and disease will make him suffer at any time.

?

The essence of poverty is that the poor lack information, faith and procrastination.

Lack of information, I don't know that there will be black swans, I don't know how to improve my ability, I don't know that the process of hard work is also happiness, and I don't know that life can be happier;

Without faith, fishermen feel that the world is the same, the fun of fishing is the same, and efforts are worthless;

Procrastination is trying to delay anything that can't produce immediate results and increase profits.

?

Some people will say: If you are not a fisherman, how can you know the happiness of a poor fisherman?

I want to say: a fish is not a child, so naturally it doesn't know the happiness of a child. A poor fisherman must not know the happiness of the rich. On the contrary, most rich people have worked hard out of poverty, and he will certainly understand the pain of poor fishermen and the silly joy of being content with the status quo. And he has experienced poverty, the hardships of starting a business, the ups and downs of life, and cherishes the happiness of fishing and sunbathing.

One thing is certain: fish can be picked up and turned into dishes on the plate.

Then I thought of another book I read recently.

The book Thinking, Fast and Slow tells us that there are two ways for the human brain to make decisions: fast and slow. Fast is an unconscious intuition. The author calls it "system 1", just like when walking and brushing Tik Tok, you basically don't have to think but rely on intuition. Slow thinking is rational thinking. The author's name is "System 2", just like asking you what 25X97 is. You must think it over before you can answer. And our daily decision-making is the result of the comprehensive action of these two systems.

The mechanism of the two is that when we are awake, the system 1 runs autonomously, while the system 2 is in a relaxed state with only a few participants. When the operation of 1 system encounters obstacles, it will seek support from system 2, and system 2 will give more detailed and clear treatment methods to solve the problem.

System 2 is lazy and usually does not actively interfere with the work of system 1 unless the system 1 sends help.

?

The poor and the rich alike. Most poor people think fast (poor people think fast), and so do rich people.

But the rich have the opportunity to understand the working mechanism of the brain through education, take the initiative to slow down when thinking quickly, and influence intuitive thinking with rational thinking.

The book also talks about the "prospect theory".

Question 1: Which of the following options would you choose?

A. I'm sure I can get 900 yuan.

B: There is a 90% chance of getting 1000 yuan.

Question 2: Which of the following options would you choose?

A. It will definitely lose 900 yuan.

B there is a possible loss of 90% 1000 yuan.

Most people will choose A in 1 and B in 2 questions. Daniel Kahneman has done many similar experiments to study this phenomenon and the factors that affect people's decision-making. Finally, he summed up the prospect theory:

①? Deterministic effect: between a certain income and gambling, people often choose a certain income.

②? Reflection effect: Between a certain loss and "gambling", people often choose "gambling".

③? Loss aversion: People are more sensitive to loss than to gain.

The poor have little income and basically nothing to lose, so they often choose to be content with the status quo in certain income (such as being content with the status quo when they are not sick) and gambling, and only take risks when they suddenly encounter diseases or disasters.

Rich people have property and are more worried about losses. Therefore, between a high probability of loss and a gamble, they tend to choose a gamble, that is, they are relatively more willing to try new opportunities.

Heuristic method is mentioned in Thinking Fast and Slow.

Heuristic mainly means that when the system 1 encounters some complex problems, it will automatically replace the previous problems with another simple problem, and then make an answer to this simple problem and directly take it as the answer to that complex problem.

One of the questions that inspires you to answer questions is also called enlightening questions.

For example, "Is he a good man?" Such a complicated question will be replaced by "Is he good to me?" Such a question.

The same is true for the poor, who are more susceptible to enlightening thinking. For example, whether life is happy or not is equivalent to buying a TV or a mobile phone; Whether living a good life is equivalent to having more children; Reducing diseases is equivalent to prescribing medicine and looking for witchcraft.

The rich have more opportunities to understand the law and more choices.

The story of the rich man and the fisherman sounds mysterious, and people may say that you made it up.

The story of fishermen getting rich has been staged in real life.

1982, 20-year-old Shaoxing girl Xu Aihua lost her job, and she decided to do something.

She borrowed a megaphone to teach people how to make clothes, and only charged 15 yuan tuition.

At the end of the course, she left eight outstanding students to open a clothing store.

Business has expanded. By 199 1, she bought 60 automatic sewing machines and became an entrepreneur.

In 2008, she invested 20 million yuan in real estate.

Xu Aihua became a billionaire, which truly explained the fairy-tale advice of a millionaire by the sea.

This example is an example in the book and an example around us.

I'm thinking, if there is a "Xu Aihua" around the fisherman, he is even the fisherman's neighbor.

"Xu Aihua" around him borrowed money, bought a boat, set up a factory and went public step by step.

Will fishermen still believe in fate and live by fishing all their lives?

This is the role of demonstration.

So knowing the nature of poverty, we should dare to think. Only by believing can you do it. If you dare to get rich, fishermen can take the first step.

My brain is wide open again Suppose Xu Aihua gets on the time machine and returns to 1982. What will she say to her 20-year-old self?

She will definitely tell herself that the first step is to teach tailors, the second step is clothing stores, the third step is to set up factories, and the fourth step is to invest in real estate ... But she will also tell herself: Be more confident, be quick, and take fewer detours.

This is the angel's angle. Education is to tell the poor from the angle of angels.

Back to the story of the rich businessman and fisherman, will the rich people by the sea be fishermen in 20 years? He came back from the future and told the fisherman that you can become rich. His advice is the best way to get rich.

This is the function of education.

So the best way to make the poor dare to become rich is to demonstrate and educate.

So the story of the rich and the fisherman tells us that the fisherman lives at his own bottom.

Fishermen feel that the world is the same, and the fun of fishing is the same. Efforts are worthless, just like sitting in a well and watching the sky. Little did he know that the rich man he saw just happened to jump into his well. The rich man has seen dozens of other wells and can jump out of the fisherman's "well" at any time to see the outside world.

The effective way to make frogs jump out of their own wells and actively overcome the intuitive fallacy of system 1 is demonstration and education.

It's just that the method of education is particularly important. Just like we study lifelong growth.

No one in the traditional education system teaches us lifelong growth.

If we were educated from childhood and received lifelong education, would we still be like this?

Education is the fundamental answer to poverty. The treatment of poverty is ineffective, not because education is ineffective, but because education methods are ineffective.

These are my thoughts on the nature of poverty for everyone to read and think about.

Postscript: happy, so happy today. I wanted to organize a discussion, but few people responded. But I think since I am prepared, I should learn something from my book club. Just when my book friend Tina asked me that she didn't know how to write, she established herself psychologically. Sent it to the group.

I didn't expect to become a mountain in the hearts of book lovers. It's a pity, but I'm really, really happy to see the book club gain something.
