The sentry under the neon lights, the younger generation, the red heart in the fire, the bloody cherry blossoms, the comic play seventy-two tenants, such filial piety, the war in the South China Sea, the red rose with thorns, marriage borrowing and so on, which are very popular all over the country, are very popular with the audience.

In the early stage, the troupe performed more than 300 performances every year, with an average attendance rate of over 70%. During the boom, it was also divided into two performing groups to perform on tour.

The troupe once owned a number of popular actors such as Huang, Fang Runsheng, Lin Terong, Zhang Gaogao, Wu Jiajian, Chen, Zheng Wanguang, Hong Shouren, Cheng Limin, Qiu Peiqi, Zhao Shuguang, Lin Jihua and Cai Aiping. Directors are, Bai Yan, Wang and Li in turn.

Since the end of 1980s, due to the overall depression of the drama and the extremely difficult economic situation, the troupe has insisted on putting on an excellent drama "Complex" to fight corruption and promote the energy-saving "Flower of Electricity". He also created and rehearsed many high-quality sketches, participated in the drama sketch competition in Central and South China and won many awards.

In 1990s, with the prosperity of China's short stories, Shantou Repertory Theatre, under the leadership of Zhao Shuguang, began to perform short stories, which produced unprecedented social effects. In a short time, I rehearsed dozens of excellent short programs such as Relocation and Interview, and started shooting the TV series Xia Yulai. Xia Yulai is a folk legend in Chaoshan. The drama troupe put him on the stage and made it into a TV series. The distribution of VCD covers the whole Chaoshan area, and is exported to Hongkong, Taiwan Province Province, Malaysia, Singapore and other regions. It is loved by hipsters all over the world and becomes a famous drama of the drama troupe.

Shantou Troupe has made indelible contributions to the development of Chaoshan culture by taking Chaoshan local culture as the main body and reflecting the humanistic feelings of Chaoshan people through these plays interpreted in Chaoshan dialect.
