1940, Jet Li won the Chinese Cultural Fund Award and was sent to the United States to inspect soil and water conservation and further study. 194 1 year, obtained a master's degree in science from the Agricultural College of the University of Tennessee, USA, and transferred to the Agricultural College of the University of Illinois in the autumn of that year to study the topic of soil development speed while studying. He took the cemetery built by Indians with "Pioria Loess" 0/800 years ago as a symbol of the times, and calculated the speed of soil development according to the changes of soil parameters such as calcium carbonate, clay particles smaller than 0.2 micron, base exchange and total inorganic carbon in the soil profile. This work has attracted the attention of relevant parties in the United States and was published as a paper by the Department of Agriculture of the University of Illinois. 1944, after receiving his Ph.D., Jet Li was employed by the U.S. Military Cartography Bureau and worked in the Military Geology Group of the U.S. Federal Geological Survey, specializing in the research and mapping of soil geographical distribution and marching conditions, as well as the engineering application of soil science. During his stay in the United States, he conducted a large number of field trips and visited agricultural colleges, experimental fields and soil and water conservation stations in more than 20 States, covering more than half of the United States.
Through field investigation and research on soil and geology in major agricultural areas of China and the United States, Jet Li has a certain foundation and attainments in pedology, soil geography, soil mapping, classification and evaluation of land resources. He could have stayed in the United States to work, but he missed his motherland, which was being ravaged by Japanese invaders, declined the sincere retention of American friends, and resolutely embarked on the journey of returning to China in June 1945.
After returning to China, he and his colleagues Xiong Yi, Hou Guangjiong, Ma, and others initiated the establishment of the Chinese Soil Society. For science and democracy, for uniting the national soil science and technology workers, and for revitalizing the soil science of the motherland. At that time, there were 60 or 70 participants in the Society, and Jet Li was elected as the first president of the Council.
From 65438 to 0947, at the invitation of Peking University Agricultural College, Jet Li was hired as a professor and head of the Department of Soil Science. From 65438 to 0949, after the establishment of Beijing Agricultural University (now China Agricultural University), he served as the director of the teaching and research group of soil agricultural chemistry, and trained talents in soil science for China.
195 1 year, he was sent by the People's Republic of China (PRC) (PRC) Government Council to visit Tibet twice, which made great contributions to the development of agriculture and animal husbandry on the roof of the world. 1954 was elected member of the second Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, 1955 was elected member of the department of biogeography of China Academy of Sciences, and 1956 was elected first-class professor of the Ministry of Higher Education.
In 1950s and 1960s, he formed a comprehensive investigation team with agricultural science and technology personnel from Beijing and the whole country for many times, and made scientific investigations in mountainous areas of Beijing, Xinjiang, northeast, northwest, hinterland of the Yellow River, Hainan Island and other places. In his work, he attached great importance to integrating theory with practice and cared about the service of soil science for agricultural production. He not only obtained valuable information, but also put forward the specific implementation plan of planning, design and development management in combination with the local industrial and agricultural production and people's life.
1966, shortly after the Cultural Revolution, Jet Li, who was nearly sixty years old at that time, moved out of Beijing with Beijing Agricultural University and was sent to Qingquangou, Ganquan County, Shaanxi Province.
From 65438 to 0973, after Jet Li returned to Beijing from the countryside, he immediately began to translate the book Micro-morphological Characteristics of Soil Geography, and then went to Quzhou County to participate in the saline-alkali land management. From 65438 to 0976, he went to Chengbu Miao Autonomous County in Hunan Province to study the development and management of Cao Shan. Because this research has achieved obvious benefits, 1982 won the "first prize of technical improvement" issued by the Ministry of Agriculture.
From 65438 to 0978, he participated in the National Science Conference and won the "Science Conference Award". After the meeting, he participated in the delegation of China Soil Society led by Professor Li Qingkui and went to Edmonton to attend the 1 1 International Conference on Soil Science. After the meeting, he visited more than ten provinces in eastern Canada. In the same year, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, he went to Italy to discuss with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization to build an agricultural remote sensing and application training center in China, and urged remote sensing, a new technology, to play a promoting role in agricultural production in China. After many efforts, the center was established in Beijing Agricultural University on 1979. Jet Li became the director of the center. In just a few years, the center has held 20 training courses, which not only trained more than 500 applied talents in agricultural remote sensing for China, but also completed national scientific research projects such as soil and water conservation, soil monitoring, crop yield estimation and grassland monitoring.
At the end of 1980s, Jet Li was over 80 years old, and he still worked tirelessly to guide many graduate students. The 40-year teaching career has trained a large number of soil science and technology talents for the country, many of whom have become experts, professors and leading cadres.
Jet Li is deeply respected by the students, not only because he is knowledgeable and insists on integrating theory with practice, but also because he is honest and frank and dares to stick to the truth. He resolutely opposes the philosophy that "those who know the times are heroes". He dares to express his views on academic and social issues, and will never follow suit and add fuel to the fire. During the period of 1979, the wind of meetings prevailed in the society, and conferences and meetings were everywhere. In this regard, he contributed to this newspaper as a member of the CPPCC, expounding the truth of "talking about the wrong country." His behavior was praised and supported by many people.
After entering the 1990s, although he suffered from various diseases and was hospitalized many times, he still went to other places to inspect his work or attend meetings, regardless of his old age and infirmity and the obstruction of his family and students. This scholar in his thirties works at his desk every day, revising papers, writing manuscripts and teaching materials with a magnifying glass. At the same time, he tirelessly studied soil taxonomy based on soil characteristics, hoping to promote the quantification and scientificity of soil taxonomy in China and rank among the advanced levels in the world.
After serving as the chairman of the first Council of China Soil Society, Jet Li was elected as the vice-chairman and consultant of previous councils. He is a member of the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth sessions of China People's Political Consultative Conference, and a member of the first the State Council academic degree evaluation committee Evaluation Group; Editorial Committee of Journal of Soil Science; Editor-in-chief of local translation newspaper. He is always conscientious and responsible for social work. 1986 and 1987 were awarded honorary certificates by Beijing Association for Science and Technology and China Soil Society in recognition of their outstanding contributions to science.
