Xu's hometown is a place with beautiful mountains and rivers and flowers. In spring, azaleas, pines and cypresses bloom all over the mountain, and flowing streams are dotted with pink and willow green. Picturesque rural scenery gave him a wonderful influence, which made him love painting since childhood, hoping to learn Chinese painting and become a painter one day. However, due to his poor family, his good wishes fell through. Nevertheless, after taking part in the revolution, his enthusiasm for Chinese painting never waned in the fierce battle of the army. He often uses the interval between battles or the rest time of the troops to draw sketches on the wall newspaper of the troops to express his feelings and boost morale. After retiring, my old dream revived and I began to learn painting. First, he bought Mustard Garden, and the painting theories and paintings of famous artists in previous dynasties, and studied hard. In the first two years after I just retired, I humbly worshipped Kunming's famous teachers and painted with my heart. Especially in the second half of 1986, after he settled down in the fifth cadre's rest home in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Military Region, the beauty of the West Lake stimulated his desire to learn painting. He vacated a room at home as a studio and spent most of his time painting. He once attended Chinese painting seminars in Hangzhou and Zhejiang University for the Aged, and was taught and guided by famous teachers from China Academy of Fine Arts. After class, he actively participated in pen meetings and live painting activities, learned from each other's strong points, made rapid progress in skills, and excellent paintings flowed out from his pen.
