Many people think that there are only two provincial capitals in Guangxi history: Nanning and Guilin. In fact, there are several other cities in Guangxi, which used to be the capital (capital and administrative office) of Guangxi. The author will interpret them for readers today.
First, the first one: Nanning
(1) New China period: After the founding of New China,1February 8, 950, it was determined that the capital of Guangxi was located in Nanning. Later, Guangxi Province was changed to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Nanning became the capital of the autonomous region, which has continued to this day. Nanning was chosen as the capital of Guangxi because it has always been one of the political centers of Guangxi in history. It is located in the south-central part of Guangxi and is close to the sea, which is conducive to economic development.
(2) Republic of China: 19 12, the Republic of China was founded and the capital of Guangxi Province was moved from Guilin to Nanning; Nanning was chosen as the capital of Guangxi in this period because Lu Rongting, the leader of the old Guangxi warlord, was in power in Guangxi, and his strength and foundation were in southern Guangxi. Choosing to move the capital to Nanning is more conducive to the control and rule of Guangxi.
(3) The Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period-Southern Han Period: During this period, the central and western Guangxi was the Nanhan Jianwu Army, and the Jianwu Army was in Xuanhua County (now Nanning).
(4) During the Tang Dynasty, Lingnan Road was divided into Lingnan East Road and Lingnan West Road, which was under the jurisdiction of Tanzhou (now Nanning). This is also the earliest period of Guangxi.
2. The second one: Wuzhou
(1) new China period: from the end of 1949 to 1950, the Guangxi provincial government stayed in Wuzhou for a short time. It was not until Nanning was later identified as the capital of Guangxi that the Guangxi provincial government moved to Nanning.
(2) Mid-Han Dynasty: In the Han Dynasty, thirteen lines of secretariat departments were set up above the county level to govern several counties and states. Today, Guangxi and Vietnam belong to the secretariat department of Jiaozhou, which governs Guangxin (now Wuzhou).
(3) Early Han Dynasty: Emperor Wu destroyed Nanyue State and set up nine counties in the old territory of Nanyue State (now there are mainly Yulin County, Hepu County and Cangwu County in Guangxi), among which Cangwu County ruled Guangxin (now Wuzhou).
(4) During the period of Cangwu Kingdom, a subordinate of South Vietnam, Zhao Tuo, king of South Vietnam, named his brother Zhao Guang as the king of Cangwu Kingdom, and Cangwu King City was located in Wuzhou City today. For details, please refer to the article "Revealing Cangwu Country (Cangwu, South Vietnam), the second of the top ten ancient countries in ancient Guangxi" written by the author.
Three. Third: Guilin
(1) Republic of China: Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi, the leaders of Guangxi warlords, were in power in Guangxi and moved the capital of Guangxi from Nanning to Guilin. Guilin, the capital of Guangxi in this period, witnessed the peak and glory of the Kuomintang Guangxi Department.
(2) Qing Dynasty: After the establishment of the Qing Dynasty, Guangxi Province was established, and the provincial capital was still located in Guilin.
(3) Ming Dynasty: After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, Jingjiang House was changed to Guilin House, and Jingjiang King was in Guilin. During this period, Guilin was not only the seat of Guangxi Government Council, but also the king city of Jingjiang.
(4) Yuan Dynasty: 1363, the Yuan Dynasty established Guangxi as the provincial capital and ruled Jingjiang County (today's Guilin). It was located in Guilin because the Yuan Dynasty attached importance to military defense and control. The strategic location of the ancient Jingjiang mansion (now Guilin) is the throat of Guangxi leading to the Central Plains.
(V) Song Dynasty: Guangnan Road was divided into two parts, Guangdong was Guangnan East Road, Guangxi was Guangnan West Road, and Guangnan West Road was located in Jingjiang (now Guilin).
(6) Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period-Southern Han Period: There were three military envoys in Guangxi during this period, which was equivalent to today's "provincial" level. Today, Jingjiang Army is in the north of Guangxi, and Jingjiang Army is stationed in Lingui (now Lingui District of Guilin City).
Four. Fourth: Rongxian County
(1) Five Dynasties and Ten Countries-Nanhan: During this period, Ningyuan Army of Nanhan was in the east of Guangxi, and Ningyuan Army was in Puning County of Rongzhou (now Rongxian County of Yulin).
(2) Rong County was called Rongzhou in the Tang Dynasty. In its heyday, Rongzhou was in charge of administration, located in Rongzhou, and governed more than 40 States, even including a part of Vietnam. But the management is equivalent to the sub-provincial administrative region of later generations.
Verb (abbreviation of verb) Fifth: Guigang:
(1) During the Qin Dynasty, Qin Shihuang set up three counties in Lingnan (the other two counties were Nanhai County and Xiang Jun County) and Guibushan County (i.e. Guigang City and the southwest of Guiping). Counties in the Qin Dynasty are equivalent to the current "provincial administrative agencies".
(2) Early Han Dynasty: Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty destroyed South Vietnam and set up nine counties in the old territory of South Vietnam (now there are mainly Yulin County, Hepu County and Cangwu County in Guangxi), among which Yulin County governs Bushan (now downtown Guigang and southwest Guiping).
Sixth: Chongzuo
During the Qin Dynasty: Qin Shihuang set up three counties in Lingnan, and Xiang County ruled the dust (namely Chongzuo City). The author believes that Xiangxian has been forgotten by the world too much. In fact, Xiang County has the largest jurisdiction area among the three counties in Lingnan, including western Guangxi, northern and central Vietnam, with an estimated area of over 300,000 square kilometers.
Seven. Seventh place: Hepu
Early Han Dynasty: Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty destroyed Nanyue State and established nine counties in the old territory of Nanyue State, of which Hepu County was under the jurisdiction of Hepu County (now Hepu County). Now some historical experts believe that the county governance of Hepu County began in the old state of Pubei County. The author thinks that there are not many records of Hepu county governing the county in history, so it is normal to have doubts about two places.
Eighth: Xilin County
During the period of Giant Machi Kingdom in Han Dynasty, Giant Machi Kingdom governed northwest Guangxi, southeast Yunnan, southwest Guizhou and northern Vietnam. The capital of Otmachi is Liancheng in Guangnan (that is, Xilin County is near Yunnan). For details, please refer to the article "Revealing Three Ancient Towns among the Ten Ancient Countries in Ancient Guangxi" written by the author. (2) Jumachi is a vassal state of the dynasty, which is equivalent to today's provincial administrative organization. Therefore, the author believes that the King City of Jumachi is also equivalent to our modern provincial capital level.
Nine. Conclusion:
In addition to the above eight places, it was once the "provincial capital" of Guangxi. What other places do you think?
