Zhao was born in Suzhou, Anhui with beautiful scenery. With the skill of fast falling, he won the first prize of 65kg in the 2003-2005 National Wushu Sanda Championship and the champion of 65kg in the Asian Wushu Sanda Championship, Asian Games and World Championships. On the evening of August 1 2007, Zhao was defeated by his opponent Akatov Murad (European champion in 2004 and Italian professional champion in 2006) in the first round of the Sino-Russian Sanda competition held in Harbin.
