1949 On April 4th, the United States signed the North Atlantic Treaty with Canada, Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Portugal and Italy in Washington, marking the formal establishment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Convention entered into force on August 24th, 1949. The purpose of NATO is to compete with the members of the Eastern European Group headed by the former Soviet Union. If one member is attacked, other members can respond in time and fight back together. However, this provision was not put into practice before the 911incident. Until the disintegration of the former Soviet Union, the Warsaw Pact was dissolved, and NATO became a regional defense cooperation organization. The highest decision-making body of NATO is the NATO Council. The Council is composed of heads of state and government, foreign ministers and defense ministers of member States. Headquartered in Brussels. Organizations mainly include North Atlantic Council, National Defense Planning Commission, Council of Permanent Representatives, Military Commission and International Secretariat. The supreme commander of the allied forces in Europe has always been an American general. NATO conducts consultations and cooperation on major international issues, coordinates positions, strengthens collective defense, and holds various joint military exercises every year. NATO has a large number of nuclear weapons and conventional troops and is an important military force in the West. This is a symbol of the capitalist camp's strategic alliance in the military. The development of the Marshall Plan enables the United States to control the defense system in Europe, and it is also a symbol of the United States dominating the world.
