George L. Wilson's outstanding career began in 1898 with H. W. Parker Architects in London. From 190 1 to 1908, as an assistant of J B. Clauderson, he began to go to France and Italy frequently. George L. Wilson is willing to leave England to accept new challenges. 1908, worked for Hong Kong Gonghe Foreign Firm (namely Danyang, Bama). 19 12 years, Wilson came to Shanghai to set up the Shanghai branch of Gonghe Foreign Firm, and became a partner in 19 14 years. Wilson presided over or helped design six of the nine buildings built by Gonghe Foreign Firm on the Bund, including the most famous HSBC Building, Customs Building and Sassoon Building. Other landmark buildings on the Bund designed by Wilson include Hamilton Tower, Shanghai New Town Hotel and Royal Asia Society Building. In fact, the key to the entire Bund skyline was written by George L. Wilson, especially the relationship between HSBC and the later customs building. 1925, when the customs decided to rebuild the building, the new HSBC Tower had become the largest and most magnificent building on the Bund. Wilson believes that the design of Jiang Customs Building should be as unified as possible with HSBC Building.
