In the middle and late 1960s, he presided over the whole process of demonstration, design, test and operation of nuclear power plants. He personally participated in and organized the high-temperature and high-pressure sealed main pump, which reached the world advanced level at that time. The self-established calculation method of main parameters of nuclear power plant has strong practical value in the selection of main parameters, system composition and key equipment selection, and can be popularized and applied in PWR nuclear power plant. In the early 1980s, the three major controls of investment, progress and quality of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station were put forward, and the Outline of Economic Benefit Report of Guangdong Nuclear Power Station was compiled, which laid a good foundation for the commissioning of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station. When he was the chairman of Qinshan Phase II nuclear power plant, he put forward the plan of "taking me as the main body and cooperating with China and foreign countries", independently designed and built two 600,000-kilowatt units, and personally calculated the main parameters, progress and investment, which provided a reliable basis for the second phase project.
1978 won the National Science Conference Award; 1985, as the first person to complete it, won the "national science and technology progress special prize"; 1988 was awarded the National Defense Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense in recognition of outstanding chief designers; 1996 won the Science and Technology Progress Award of Heliang Heli Fund.
1994 was elected as the first academician of China Academy of Engineering.
