I know that Zhang Zhiping has just resumed the college entrance examination. I heard that several educated youths got together to paint plaster statues. There are Zhu Zude, Zhang Zhiping, Liu Shitong, Jong Li ... There are not many words. He painted many oil paintings and sketches in his twenties, which gave me the impression that he had a good foundation before entering school. I heard that they are already the backbone of art creation in the Construction Corps. Because I am an educated youth and have the same hobbies, I became friends with them in the future.
I stayed in the literary and artistic creation class of the Cultural Department and occasionally went to the university to visit my old friends. In different universities, Zhu Zude studied sculpture, Liu Shitong and Li Zhongxuan studied printmaking, and Zhang Zhiping still painted oil paintings. In my memory, Zhang Zhiping painted a large-scale oil painting with the theme of educated youth, which was a scene in which educated youth buried their companions. Zhu Zude is very talkative. When Zhiping was a sophomore, he chose Chinese painting and talked to me during the period. I was a little surprised at his choice at that time. After graduating from college, he and Chen were assigned to work in a small garden advertising company. I went to see them several times. In Zhenzhuang, on the back of the reviewing stand, in order to complete the company's task, I painted huge movie commercials on the high scaffolding. At that time, Zhang Zhiping's mantra was "boredom". Sometimes, when I turn to his hut in Linshu Street, I see him standing in front of a humble desk, facing the traditional landscape paintings in China, with a bunch of landscape day classes at his feet. Looking back at that time, I looked at it calmly and said, "Brother Zhang, that little oil painting on the wall is quite interesting." I guess, as soon as the door is closed, Brother Zhang must feel that "Liu is a boring friend".
Later, I heard that Brother Zhiping had transferred back to school to teach, and I was very happy for him. The 1980s and 1990s were the stage when the overall trend of modern art entered China, but his works were rarely seen in exhibitions. Only in recent years, I have been fascinated by China's traditional paintings, so I slowly paid attention to his exhibits and carefully read the works in his studio. Because fate is a happy old age and can be together again, although the aesthetic orientation is different, everyone is still painting, and painting is better than anything else.
In artistic practice, many people rely on doubt or negation to develop or achieve themselves, while others rely on affirmation and persistence to grasp or complete themselves, which may lead to the same goal. Art history must ultimately be defined by works.
I like Brother Zhi Ping now. Perhaps the precipitation of years has calmed my anger. At this age, full of vigor and vitality, a flower-and-bird figure, eager to be husband and wife. Look at his painting, steady, calm, sure, clean and tidy, with his own direction. It is really difficult to get a draft after repeated deliberation, sketching, refining and submitting.
In a conversation, he mentioned his own idea that life is too limited, so it is good to draw some fine and reasonable works in a certain field within a limited scope. The temperament of Yunnan people is always simple. As a Shanghainese, Zhang Zhiping 17 years old went to Xishuangbanna Agricultural Reclamation and lived in Yunnan for more than 30 years. Zhang Zhiping often went to art exhibitions when he was a teenager. According to him, every time there is an art exhibition, he is accompanied by his father who likes painting. When he went to the border of Mengla in Xishuangbanna, in order to get more free space, he built a hut by the rubber forest to live alone, let go of any personal hobbies and enjoy himself undisturbed. In the dim light of night, the lights flickered, so after eight years, until I resumed the college entrance examination and left, my painting skills gradually improved in this environment.
