Zhu Maichen, a scholar, came last in the exam and was very depressed. His father-in-law Liu Ergong forced his daughter Yuxian to separate from him. In the madness of Zhu Maichen, Liu Ergong died suddenly. As the classic inspiration of her husband, Yuxian poured water mercilessly, forcing Zhu to write a divorce letter. Later, in the name of his neighbor Andao Wang, he transferred his father's silver jade bracelet to Zhu Maichen to help him study hard and bear the accusations of gossip. Finally, Zhu was dismissed from office and the couple put aside their differences.

Shanghai Yue Theatre premiered at Shaw Stage on June 23rd 1998. Tong Weiwei film director, Zhu arranged and distributed, Jun Chen singing design scheme, stage art design, Liu Ming lighting design, Sun Yaosheng clothing design scheme, technical director. Played by, Hua Yiqing plays Liu Yuxian, Yang, Zhang Hailing and Jin Hong plays Liu Ergong.

Zhu Maichen does exist in history. He lived in the Han Dynasty and was from Wuxian, Wucheng. Wucheng county was very big at that time. Jianxian County is located in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and now belongs to Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province. Zhu Maichen was born in poverty and lived by chopping wood. But he likes reading very much, and the husband and wife are selling firewood in the street. Zhu has been singing poetry while walking.
