A few days ago, a new study published by the Tiger and Leopard Research Team of Beijing Normal University in the journal Comprehensive Zoology provided a credible assessment of the population status of the leopard in North China for the first time. The statistical model of spatial marker recapture based on Bayes shows that the population size of Huabei leopard in Ziwuling forest region of Shaanxi Province is 20 1 10. The significance of this study is to reveal that Ziwuling forest area in Yan 'an, Shaanxi Province is the key distribution area of Huabei leopard, and the Huabei leopard population in this area is also the largest and densest leopard population found in China.
In addition, two related studies show that this area not only has an important leopard population in North China, but also finds that small and medium-sized carnivores distributed in the same field have reached a high richness, which is rare in North China and China, and has become an ideal area for carnivores to coexist and compete. In this study, the method based on marker recapture model was successfully applied to the population survey of Huabei leopard for the first time, which provided a replicable model and standard for other distribution areas of Huabei leopard.
