Magnolia grandiflora is a small deciduous tree, with a plant height of 3 to 6 meters and a maximum of 10 meter. Branchlets are light gray, buds are about 1 cm long, dark purple brown, all villous.

Female flowers have alternate leaves, the petiole is 1.5 cm to 6 cm long, and it is oval or obovate oblong, with a length of 6 cm to 15 cm and a width of 6 cm to 10 cm, with white powder on the back of the leaves and 6 to 8 pairs of lateral veins. The stems are round or wedge-shaped, short and sharp at first, with green surface, pink white back and pubescence.

The flower body is 8 cm in diameter to 10 cm, and the pedicel is four or five cm long; Buds are pinkish; White incense, 9 pieces of perianth, 3 pieces of pink outer wheel, and the rest are white. Stamens are mostly purplish red, anthers open inward, and pistils are oval.

Aggregate fruit is oval, 4 cm to 6 cm long, 2 cm wide, red and pointed at the top. The seeds are orange-yellow, nearly round, and about 0.6 cm in diameter.

Peanuts are on the branches and the flower stalks are very long. When in full bloom, it floats with the wind, and the fragrance is overflowing, just like the goddess scattering flowers, hence the name "Goddess Flower". The flowering period is from early June to mid-July, and the fruit ripens in mid-September.
