Master Yin Shun (1906-2005), whose common name is Zhang, was born in Haining, Zhejiang, and became a monk on 1930. He followed Master Taixu to join the modern Buddhist revival movement in China, and was famous for his profound knowledge in Buddhism at that time. After arriving in Taiwan Province Province, he founded many famous Buddhist colleges. Master Yin Shun learned a lot about Sanzang. He has been lecturing all his life. He has written and compiled more than 40 kinds of works, which have been successively included as Wonderful Gathering (24 volumes), Collected Works of Rain Hua (5 volumes), History of Indian Buddhist Thought, Integration of Primitive Buddhist Scriptures, A Complete Collection of Essays and Comments, Early Times, etc. 1973, Taisho University awarded Master Yin Shun a doctorate in literature in recognition of his originality in the history of Zen in China. Because of his outstanding achievements in introducing and popularizing Indian Buddhism, he is known as "the first person since Xuanzang", which has deeply influenced the trend of Buddhist academic research in China. Master Yin Shun advocated and expounded the idea of "Buddhism on earth" all his life, which had a wide and far-reaching influence on the thought and practice of contemporary Buddhism in China, especially in Taiwan Province Province. Master Yan Zheng, the founder of Tzu Chi Meritorious Society, a global charity organization, was created by Master Yin Shun. Because of the great influence and contribution of Master Yin Shun to Buddhism and academia, the second half of the 20th century was even called "Yin Shun era" in Buddhism in Taiwan Province province.
