"Art was shut out by Rabe and others, and for three days, all the people were deprived of food, and they went back to Jiangting to Shouchun for eight miles. Ask the kitchen, and 30 pieces of wheat crumbs. In summer, I want honey pulp, but there is no honey. Sitting in bed and sighing for half a day, he said, "Uncle Yuan, what about this?"! "Died of lying under the bed vomiting blood." -"the reflection of Yuan Shu biography" Pei Songzhi quoted "Wu Shu".
Shu Yuan (? -199), Zidao, Ruyang (now southwest of Zhoukou, Henan). Shu Yuan was born into a wealthy family. It can be said that through the ages, noble families like Yuan Jia are rare. Li Xunhuan, Xiao Li flying knife in Gu Long's works, is known as "a family of seven scholars, and two scholars in Haining in Qing Dynasty". In the late Qing Dynasty, the Weng family in Changshu was called "the top scholar's family, the royal family". It is not difficult to imagine how magnificent this family is, but compared with the Yuan family, it is simply dwarfed.
Speaking of the old Yuan family, there is a very popular saying called "four generations and three publics". Why is there such a statement? Because Yuan Shu's great-grandfather Yuan An was Stuart in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Yuan An's second son Chang Yuan was a mediocrity. Although Yuan An's eldest son is only the prefect of Shu County, his son and Yuan An's grandson are officials under Tai Wei, and his third son, Yuan Feng, and fourth son are three positions, so people say that Yuan Jia IV "lived for three generations, so he is partial to the world."
Perhaps it is precisely because of Yuan Jia's "four generations and three fairs, one person's direct disciples spread all over the world" that Yuan Shu and Yuan Shaocai were unfaithful secretly. During the separatist period, the two brothers, one south and one north, became the strongest of all governors. With their strength and family fame, it is arguably the revival of the Han Dynasty. Even if brothers join hands to start a new stove, it is not a very difficult thing to unify China, but in the end they all end up with a reputation and a long history.
Yuan Shu had a smooth career in his early years. Relying on his family background and his father Yuan Feng, who was common in the DPRK at that time, Yuan Shu regarded Xiaolian as Lang when he was young. According to historical records, he had many positions and later served as a captain and commander of the samurai corps. During Dong Zhuo's authoritarian period, in order to win over Yuan Shu, he was appointed as the post-general. Yuan Shu's mind is very clear at this moment. Seeing Dong Zhuo's ambition, like his younger brother Yuan Shao, he took the opportunity to escape from Luoyang and quickly organized various separatist forces to jointly crusade against Dong. Shu Yuan should be said to be very appealing at this time. His most successful move was to pull Sun Jian, the then Changsha prefect, to his side.
Sun Jian, known as the "Tiger of Jiangdong", is brave and good at fighting, and his military ability is second to none among Dong governors, even Dong Zhuo is afraid of him. Sun Jian killed Wang Rui, the secretariat of Jingzhou, and Zhang Zi, the satrap of Nanyang, and went all the way north from Changsha to beat Dong Zhuo, which not only helped Yuan Shu occupy Nanyang County, the northernmost part of Jingzhou, but also brought almost the whole Jingzhou behind him into the sphere of influence. According to the Records of the Later Han Dynasty, there are 37 cities in Nanyang with 500,000 households and a total population of more than 2.4 million. Whether it is agriculture, handicrafts or commerce, it is the largest county in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Runan, next to Nanyang County, also has 37 cities with 400,000 households and 2 10/00,000 people, making it the second largest county after Nanyang. Yuan Shu occupied Nanyang by himself, and Runan was the village of the Yuan family, which undoubtedly became the strong backing of Yuan Shu.
Shortly after Sun Jian went north, Liu Shangbiao, the new Jingzhou secretariat, proclaimed himself emperor, and Yuan Shu, as a general, was taken to Nanyang as a satrap. Yuan Shu also took the opportunity to let Sun Jian be the secretariat of Yuzhou. So we saw such a scene: Yuan Shu, who was born in a prominent family, was in prosperity in troubled times; Happy Sun Jian is the forerunner, which can be described as human harmony; It is advantageous to cross Jing and Yu. At this point, in Yuan Shu's place, there is a tendency for the world to compete for the male. Because of this, Sun Jian, with the support of Yuan Shu, drove Dong Zhuo away and killed him all the way into Luoyang under the unfavorable situation of melee among other governors.
But this is not the most glorious moment of Yuan Shu, because soon, the contest between Yuan Shu power group and Yuan Shao power group began. Yuan Shao hated Dong Zhuo, and was not prepared to admit that Dong Zhuo was the Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty, and to set up another emperor. But with the expansion of the territory, Yuan Shu's ambition gradually exposed, and he began to dream of being an emperor. So I found an excuse to refuse to cooperate with Yuan Shao, and the relationship between the two brothers was ordinary. As a result, he gradually became somewhat incompatible.
As mentioned earlier, Yuan Shu insisted that Sun Jian be the secretariat of Yuzhou, but Yuan Shao refused to acknowledge this appointment, and appointed another person named Zhou Ai as the secretariat of Yuzhou. There is no room for two tigers in one mountain, and conflict is inevitable. As far as war is concerned, Zhou Hao is definitely no match for Sun Jian. He was killed after repeated battles and defeats. However, Yuan Shu's appetite is not just the immediate territory. When Sun Jian and Zhou Zi were in full swing, he extended his sphere of influence to Yangzhou. Zhou Zi's younger brother, Jiujiang satrap Zhou Chang, was defeated by Yuan Shu, but he couldn't beat Sun Jian, so he ran to help his younger brother beat Yuan Shu, and was defeated again. The contest between yuan brothers, Yuan Shu swept the board.
However, Yuan Shao is not a fuel-efficient lamp. He launched a series of diplomatic actions against Yuan Shu, making Yuan Shu a target of public criticism. Coupled with Yuan Shu's own shortcomings, some potential crises began to emerge. Yuan Shu successively occupied Yangzhou, Yuzhou, Li Si and Jingzhou, and became the overlord of the south. At this time, he began to be complacent. He not only forgot the principle of shooting the first bird, but also put on airs, fanned the flames everywhere, created all kinds of troubles, and beggar his neighbor. He not only turned against his cousin Yuan Shao, but also turned against his neighbor Liu Biao. Making too many enemies too quickly is a great failure of Yuan Shu. Eventually Yuan Shu died of illness.
