Personal profile of Jin Dan
Jin Dan, male, was born in May, 1966, from Yangzhou, Jiangsu. Doctor of Literature, Professor of Nanjing Art Institute, Doctoral Supervisor, Head of Calligraphy Department. Evaluation expert of national social science fund art project of Ministry of Education. Member of China Calligraphers Association, member of Xiling Printing Society, director of Jiangsu Calligraphers Association, and vice president of Jiangsu Seal Cutting Research Association.

He studied calligraphy at the age of 8, and painting at the age of 15, and studied under Mr. He from Yangzhou. 1988 was admitted to the first calligraphy major of Nanjing Art Institute. 1998, studied for master's degree and doctor's degree in calligraphy successively, and the tutor was Professor Huang Yun. After graduation, he stayed in school to teach and was rated as an outstanding young backbone teacher of "Blue Project" by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. The training object of "333 High-level Talents Training Project". His calligraphy works have been selected and won awards in many national exhibitions, and his works have been included in the calligraphy works of the winners of previous national exhibitions. In addition to his calligraphy creation, he also devoted himself to the study of the history of calligraphy. He won the first prize of the 5th China Calligraphy Lanting Award (Theoretical Award), the first prize of the contemporary seal cutting academic seminar of Xiling Printing Society, and the third prize of the 5th Higher Education Scientific Research (Humanities and Social Sciences) of the Ministry of Education. The paper was included in Collection of Contemporary China Calligraphy.

He is the author of China's Calligraphy History (co-author), The Complete Works of China Calligrapher Yi Bingshou and Chen Hongshou, Bao Calligraphy Review, Ruan Yuan Calligraphy Research, From Copy to Creation, Dong Qichang, On Baihao Art, Calligraphy Appreciation, Calligraphy Wonderful Road, and Copy Seal Carving. At present, he has published more than 50 papers in professional journals such as China Calligraphy, Calligraphy Research, Calligraphy, Southeast Culture and Rong Baozhai. He presided over the project "Kang Youwei and the Study of Inscriptions in Qing Dynasty" of the Ministry of Culture, and edited the Dictionary of Carving Characters for Painting and Calligraphy in Qing Dynasty. Since 2006, he has been teaching "Approaching Calligraphy" in Jiangsu Education TV Station.
