In the 1970s, Qi Liangchi, the eldest son of Qi Baishi, and Li Yan, his son, studied flower and bird painting in Beijing Qishi Art College. After studying with Zhang Shijian, a famous flower and bird painter from Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Fan Fu, president of Luoyang Peony Painting Academy, he learned to paint peony. In the late 1980s, Mr. Liang Shunian, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, studied landscape painting from his teacher.
