Yu Hua (1960-April 3), a contemporary writer in China, was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Member of the Ninth National Committee of Chinese Writers Association, currently working for Hangzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles.

1984 began to publish novels. Xu Sanguan's Selling Blood was selected by 100 critics and literary editors as one of the ten most influential works in1990s. 1998 won the Italian garza Carver Literature Prize. In 2005, he won the China Book Special Contribution Award.

Creative characteristics

In the tragic world described in Yu Hua's novels, people live in poverty, hunger, violence and death under the double oppression of survival dilemma and spiritual alienation. On the one hand, Yu Hua depicts the living picture of poverty and hunger, showing the state that the people at the bottom can't even guarantee the most basic living needs, and deepening the expression of suffering. On the other hand, by facing the scenes of violence, blood and death, we mercilessly expose the false mask and ugly scars of reality and render the suffering to the extreme.
