Zhang Dongyang case, also known as Zhang Dongyang incident, is a famous political case in China's modern history. The protagonist of the Zhang Dongyang case is Zhang Dongyang, an official in the late Qing Dynasty, who was investigated on suspicion of a major corruption case. Zhang Dongyang, a native of Dongyang, Zi Han, was an official in the late Qing Dynasty. Zhang Dongyang was born in a scholarly family. He has been proficient in poetry and songs since childhood, and his cultural accomplishment is very high. He entered the officialdom during the Tongzhi period (1862- 1874), and gradually gained the appreciation of the upper class because of his outstanding talent.

During Guangxu period (1875- 1908), Zhang Dongyang's career entered the fast lane, and he successively held important positions such as Zhang Jing, minister of military affairs, bachelor of cabinet and assistant minister of rites. In officialdom, Zhang Dongyang is famous for his ability and determination. At the same time, he is an excellent calligrapher and poet with a high cultural status.

However, in the 20th year of Guangxu (1894), Zhang Dongyang was involved in a major corruption case. The cause of this case is that Zhang Dongyang was suspected of taking advantage of his position as the director of the family department, accepting bribes and participating in illegal transactions. The case caused great shock in the ruling and opposition parties, and Zhang Dongyang was therefore censored.

After investigation, Zhang Dongyang's crime was proved. In the 21st year of Guangxu (1895), Zhang Dongyang was dismissed from his post for investigation and exiled to Xinjiang. During his exile, Zhang Dongyang had a hard time, but his talent was still recognized by the world.

Later, in the 26th year of Guangxu (1900), Zhang Dongyang was pardoned and allowed to return to his hometown. After returning to his hometown, Zhang Dongyang concentrated on his studies and stopped dabbling in officialdom. He devoted his life to cultural research and calligraphy creation, and made great achievements.

As a typical political case in Qing Dynasty, Zhang Dongyang case exposed the corruption of officialdom and the seriousness of social problems at that time. At the same time, Zhang Dongyang's personal experience also reflects his struggle and choice in that era.
