The anecdote "Poetry" quoted from "Xie's Family Record" said: "Recreation (referring to Xie Lingyun) has a good word for every pair of Huilian. Taste Yongjia Xitang, thinking about poetry, I suddenly saw Huilian during my nap, that is,' Spring grass grows in the pond'. Therefore, as the saying goes,' this language is God's help, not mine'. Xie Lingyun wrote the famous sentence "Spring grass grows on the pond" in Climbing the pond upstairs when he saw Xie Huilian in his dream.
The great-grandfather of the family member Xie Tie (the sixth brother of Xie An) is the prefect of Yongjia.

After the Eastern Han Dynasty, Xiao Fu's literary achievements began to decline, and Xiao Fu, who was lyrical and dedicated to things, gradually rose. Xie Huilian's "Snow Fu" and Xie Zhuang's "Moon Fu" are also called the representative works of this kind of small fu in the Six Dynasties. This poem follows the hypothesis of subject and object in Han Fu, and presents a simple and beautiful picture from brewing snow to writing about snow and sunny days. His "Sacrifice to the Tomb" is also very emotional. The description of the shape of the ancient tomb in the first half can be regarded as the earliest archaeological excavation briefing in China.
Although his poems are not as clever as Xie Lingyun's, his words and sentences are quite clever. He also has some poems with light tone and lively words, such as Autumn is crisp and the moon is bright, and the Yi River is brilliant. "Bleak wind cicadas, partly cloudy geese, cold merchants moving to boudoir, solitary lights warming curtains;" Yi Dao's "column high anvil ring, long pestle sound sad. Slightly fragrant sleeves, light sweat and double questions are all well-conceived sentences. Commenting on his two poems, Shi Pin said, "Although the works of Yi Dao and Qiu Huai are full of energy and sharp thoughts, how can they be supplemented?" Some of his Yuefu poems are full of grievances. Shi Pin classified his poems as Chinese. Later generations called him "three thanks" with Xie Lingyun and Xie Shu.
The literary work Sui Shu Jing Ji Zhi contains six volumes of Xie Huilian Collection, which has been lost. After the Ming dynasty, a large number of versions appeared. 34 volumes 17, 33 poems recorded in 4 volumes, poems of pre-Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties and Song poetry.

Later, in Xitang, Yongjia, it was impossible to just think about poetry. When I suddenly saw Huilian in my sleep, it became' pond spring grass'. Therefore, I tasted the cloud:' This language is God's help, not mine.' "
