April 15 to April 2 1 Sunday is the 27th national publicity week on cancer prevention and treatment. The theme of this year's publicity week is "Healthy Family in China-Caring for Life Sciences and Preventing Cancer". Professor Hu Yi, Director of Oncology Department of the Fifth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital, introduced the knowledge about cancer prevention.
Cancer is a malignant tumor. Because of its malignant growth, it has a great impact on people's health. Malignant tumor has always been the leading cause of death among urban and rural residents in China. Although great progress has been made in tumor treatment in recent years, prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment are still the main methods to reduce mortality. About 30%-50% of cancer cases can be prevented. In daily life, you can prevent tumors in the following ways.
Smoking is a high risk factor for inducing many kinds of cancers, especially increasing the risk of lung cancer. There are hundreds of harmful substances in tobacco, and there are 69 definite carcinogens. People whose smoking index (the number of cigarettes smoked per day multiplied by smoking age) exceeds 400 are "high-risk groups" of lung cancer. If you smoke 1 pack a day for more than 20 years, then the smoking index is 400. Quitting smoking can still improve the anti-tumor effect even after the tumor is diagnosed. It is recommended that everyone quit smoking.
Being overweight or obese increases the risk of more than 12 kinds of cancers, including liver cancer, prostate cancer and breast cancer. The risk of postmenopausal breast cancer increases 1 1% for every 5 kg increase in adult women's weight. For every 5 kg of adult male weight gain, the risk of colon cancer increases by 9%. Body mass index (BMI) is a good indicator to monitor weight. Body mass index is the weight (kg) divided by the square of height (m). Within the range of normal body mass index (18.5-23.9), it is suggested to keep the body mass index as low as possible.
