Hunan Agricultural University, referred to as "Hunan Agricultural University", is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China and the Hunan Provincial People's Government, and the national "20 1 1 Plan" collaborative innovation center is the leading construction unit.
China's first batch of new rural development research institute construction pilot units, the first batch of national excellent agricultural and forestry talents education and training program pilot universities, the national "Central and Western Universities Basic Capacity Building Project" selected universities, the national "key discipline project with characteristics" construction universities, the national construction of high-level universities public postgraduate program implementation universities, Hunan's "double-class" A-class construction universities, and universities with postgraduate exemption qualifications.

Hunan Agricultural University started from a private school founded on June 8, 1903, and went through the stages of Hunan Private Higher Agricultural Vocational School, Hunan Agricultural College and Hunan Agricultural College.
1951March, Hunan Agriculture and Forestry College and Hunan University Agricultural College merged to form Hunan Agricultural College; In June of the same year+10, President Mao Zedong wrote the name of the school in his own handwriting. Postgraduates begin to enroll students 1978. 1987 began to recruit doctoral students. 1994 changed its name to Hunan Agricultural University in March.
