Feng Hou Feng Hou (1928.2.3-) is an expert in vegetable breeding. Born in pingdu city, Shandong Province. 1954 graduated from Beijing Agricultural University. He is currently a researcher at Tianjin Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Cucumber breeding leader. In 1960s, it took the lead in developing cucumber disease-resistant breeding in China. Since the sixth five-year plan, he has presided over the national scientific and technological research project of cucumber breeding. In view of the threat of many diseases in cucumber production, he successfully combined disease resistance, high yield and early maturity by using the breeding method of hybrid backcross, and gradually overcame the difficulties of cucumber downy mildew, powdery mildew and Fusarium wilt. The problems of low yield and poor quality of cucumber were solved by using widely introduced domestic and foreign variety resources. Jin Yan, Jinza, Jinchun and other new cucumber varieties 12 have been cultivated and widely promoted in 30 provinces and cities, accounting for more than 80% of the national cucumber planting area, creating a cumulative social and economic benefit of 6 billion yuan. The genetic law of cucumber F 1 was first studied in China, and it was concluded that there were certain advantages in high yield and early maturity, while the resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew and Fusarium wilt was controlled by multiple genes. Cucumber Research Institute and its industrialization engineering system of breeding, propagation and popularization have accumulated experience for the transformation of agricultural scientific research units and achieved remarkable social benefits. He has won the second prize of national scientific and technological progress, the second prize of national invention 1, the first prize of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress and many other achievement awards.
1999 was elected as an academician of China Academy of Engineering.
