After working for hr for so long, the most frequently asked question by some friends is, should I change jobs? I asked many questions and answered many questions. I always wanted to write an article about job-hopping. Today, I finally have time and decided to write it out, hoping to help people in need.
My friend A told me today that he is going to jump ship again.
I was not surprised when I heard the news.
I asked him, you have only been doing this job for half a year, and you are probably just familiar with it. Didn't you say this job would last a little longer? Why did you quit again?
He replied that the company environment is not good, the boss is too strict to go to work, the work pressure is too great, the relationship between colleagues is too stiff, the office atmosphere is too dull, and the salary is still a little low. He listed many reasons at once, as if he wanted me to agree with his behavior.
Because of the sensitivity of hr work for so many years, I feel a little rejected by these reasons he put forward. But as a friend, I want to help him.
Actually, I've known him since 20 12, and it's almost four years now. In the past four years, I have known six job-hopping times, and the longest job I have ever had is eight months.
This time, I want to help him clear his mind.
I asked him, you have changed so many jobs over the years, what do you think you want? I want to know the real motive of his job-hopping.
He said that this job is too hard and the salary is not high, and he wants to find a job with a higher salary.
In fact, I understand him at the moment. I believe that many people quit their jobs because of this reason, that is, the current salary is too low and the work is too hard. In contrast, they immediately felt that they were going to resign, as if staying for one more second was a loss.
Pursuing a high salary is the wish of each of us, but a high salary is not necessarily what you can pursue if you change jobs.
I asked him if he got a raise after jumping so many times.
He hung his head and didn't answer me immediately. I know, in fact, his salary has not increased much.
He said that there were times when it didn't go up, but it dropped a little. Because I haven't been able to find a better job since I resigned, but as time goes by, I don't have much money, so I try to make one and support myself first. Look for it when you have the chance. Once or twice, it has gone up by several hundred dollars.
I asked him, do you think job-hopping can raise your salary in your current job?
He said that after looking for it for so long, it seems that the salary is almost the same.
I asked him, have you ever wondered why you can't find a well-paid job after changing jobs so many times?
He bowed his head in thought, as if remembering everything in the past. He said that for a long time, maybe he didn't improve himself specifically in these years. Because of his low salary, he sometimes muddles along, and if he can't stay any longer, he will quit. So when I go to another company, I still have to do the same thing as before.
I'm glad he can see the essence of his problem.
I didn't give him much advice. I hope to make myself think through dialogue. After all, a person can only be truly moved and act after his own thinking.
After leaving him, I hope he can start a different work journey.
In fact, many people fall into the job-hopping trap: at first, they think about low wages, so they do things carelessly and escape when they have difficulties in work. When they wait for a period of time, they will consider changing, and they want to quit. At first, I was interviewing outside while working, and I couldn't find the right one. So I quit my job and looked for a job. I can't find a better job because I didn't accumulate much in my last job. As time went on, I began to doubt myself. Finally, I had to lower my requirements, find a job worse than before and wait for another opportunity. These people, we call them "flea people". I haven't stayed in this place for a long time, so it is impossible to make great progress in my career by jumping to another place at once.
These "flea people" generally have the following characteristics:
As long as this company has any dissatisfaction, I try to solve it by jumping ship;
If you don't build your own core competitiveness in this company, you will quit;
Run when you encounter difficulties in your work, so your ability to resist pressure and work always stands still.
You think you want to jump ship to a better company, but you are actually avoiding the immediate pressure; You think you can solve the problem by jumping, but you don't have better ability than before, or you can't find a better job; You think you won't face the same pressure as your last job if you jump. In fact, no job in the world is the same.
When you face the immediate pressure, if you can't solve it, you will still choose to escape if you change to the next one. But if you choose to face difficulties and solve them, you will grow. If you change your job, you will be more calm.
Therefore, it turns out that many people quit their jobs not for better development at all, but because they refuse to grow up, and they will never have a good job.
Anyone who has done recruitment knows that there are two very important factors in recruiting social workers. One is work experience and the other is stability. Work experience ensures that he is qualified for this position; Stability can make this kind of talent export performance for the company for a long time.
The judgment of these two factors is generally based on the time you have worked in a company. After working in a company for a long time, there is still a lot of information about outstanding talents behind it. For example, his performance must be excellent in order to be recognized by this company and stay in a company for a long time. Otherwise, in such a competitive market environment, he would have been eliminated by his superiors.
Many people say that I am very capable, but I don't want to stay in this company. But hr will say, you are so capable, but you are not our type, because you have to run for six months. For us, no matter how strong your ability is, your contribution to us is limited. Therefore, when hr screens resumes, the first thing to be eliminated is those who frequently quit jobs and have not worked in a company for more than 2 years in the past work experience.
I used to screen resumes when I was recruiting. Generally speaking, for people of different levels, there are different standards for job-hopping times and working hours in the company. For all positions, if the candidate has not stayed in any company for more than one year, he has basically passed; For employees, if they don't do it for more than half a year, they will change to two companies, which will basically pass; Those above the supervisor level will basically pass if they have not worked in a company for more than 2 years. Working for more than 3 years is preferred. Although it will be difficult to recruit now, some basic recruitment principles cannot be changed. After all, if you hire a person and leave in less than half a year, the cost will probably be much higher than if you spend more time and money to find an excellent talent.
So will you really jump ship? Every time I see those people who jump ship, I have an impulse to tell him that your so-called jump ship is not a slot, but a trap. This trap will put your career into a vicious circle. The worse you jump, the shorter you jump!
You must ask yourself five questions before jumping ship:
1. Does my present qualifications support me to find a job with a higher salary?
The company is not a charity, but a place where performance needs to be created. Any company recruits a person, hoping that this person can help the company create value ten times higher than his salary. Therefore, if you want to challenge the high salary, you must be able to have a high salary. If the purpose of your job-hopping is to raise your salary, ask yourself this question first. What if you haven't? Don't jump ship yet, do your current job well and accumulate work-related project experience. At the same time, we should also understand the competency requirements of higher posts and improve what we don't have.
Second, did I really quit because of my own development?
Someone emailed me and asked me if I wanted to change my job.
I asked them what was the reason for their job hopping. There are many reasons, but some of them are nothing more than these: the work is too hard, the boss is not good, the work is too miscellaneous to learn, the environment is not good, and the relationship between colleagues is complicated.
When I say you go to the next company, you will jump ship. They asked why. Because no company's work is not hard, no boss is born to be a good boss, and no job is born to let you learn things. If you don't change, you will still feel that you work hard, your boss is not good, and you can't learn anything in your next company.
I will never leave my job for work reasons, environmental reasons or company reasons. There is only one reason why I left my job, and that is whether this job is conducive to my career development. Because all external reasons are factors that promote my growth, if I can overcome them, I will be invincible in the workplace!
Think back, how many jobs have you changed since you joined the company? Is there anything I have done for more than three years? Do you want to escape every time you encounter difficulties and boredom? As a result, you have more and more work, more and more difficulties, and finally there is nowhere to escape. Because you don't know what you are good at, and the company doesn't know what you can do for them.
If I go all out, can the current company really fail to meet your requirements for your ideal job?
When a person leaves a company, there must be a gap between his current working condition and his ideal. For example, I hope to get a promotion. Many people have worked in a company for two years, but they have never been promoted by the company. At this time, I wanted to realize my wish by jumping ship. Then ask yourself, have I really done my best in these two years? Did I go all out to create performance that exceeded the expectations of the leaders? If you do well enough, but the company still can't give you a promotion, I agree to your resignation. Job-hopping for the purpose of development has always been worth promoting.
4. Can you really promise not to regret after job-hopping?
Many people find that their work is not as good as they think. However, the bow has turned back. If we don't regret job-hopping and staged the tragedy of "job-hopping is poor in March", we need to do it: try not to become naked resignation. Great people are waiting for others to dig. If you haven't been dug up yet, you can also "ride a donkey to find a horse" and learn more about the company you want to go to. You can ask for a fake interview and ask for resignation after everything is confirmed. Of course, while the iron is hot, you need to be hard. You need to improve your ability in all aspects to ensure that everything goes smoothly during the interview, because the interview takes time, and it is not good for you to always ask for leave to go to the interview. Job-hopping after careful choice is a job-hopping without regrets.
Is there really nothing you want in your present job?
A job, besides providing you with salary, has more important things to accumulate growth capital. Many people are always staring at the salary. In fact, what we should really focus on is whether we can get the capital for future growth from this job. Because salary is only the result of your growth. If you only focus on that salary, it's easy for you to give up a job with a low salary now but a high salary in the future. A person's growth is accumulated over time. No company will let you become a director after just one year's work, unless the boss of this company is your father. In the first three years after graduation, my salary has been rising by several hundred dollars. Many people will say that it took three years to gain less than 1000 yuan. What do you want? What I want is that the leaders here let me play freely and I can do the projects I want. After three years, my salary tripled. I also want a high salary, but I know that when I don't have the capital for a high salary, the only thing I can do is concentrate on training. After all, what can I be but young? If youth can't buy capital for your future growth, then youth is your biggest stunt.
So if you are still in the accumulation stage, please think it over before leaving your job. I really can't get the value of exercise from this job?
Criteria for measuring whether to change jobs.
The above are five questions about job hopping. If you can sort out these problems, I think it will be good for you to change jobs.
For job-hoppers, job-hopping is nothing more than the pursuit of a better life. So, if your job-hopping meets the following criteria, I think you can consider choosing job-hopping:
1. The salary has increased by more than 20% than before.
If you only get a few hundred dollars after job-hopping and your position hasn't changed, I suggest you stay in your original company honestly. Even if this company is not bad, you just can't accept its objective existence. Hold on a little longer, and you will get more.
Second, the position promotion
Job promotion means upward career development and higher salary. This is the purpose of our job-hopping. If there is such a thing, and the current company can't give you such a position, then job-hopping is a natural thing.
Third, the platform is bigger.
This situation not only refers to the enlargement of the company, but also includes the enlargement of your rights and responsibilities. In this way, you can get in touch with more things, you have more opportunities to be a master, and your chances of growth are faster!
Your present job is not what you like.
If your current job is not what you like, you can consider changing your job. But I don't approve of jumping ship at once. I said in an article that many times, you don't like a job. It's not that you really don't like it, but that you don't have enough ability to make achievements and sense of accomplishment, which leads to your dislike. But ability can be cultivated, so give yourself more time, go all out during this time, and at the same time pay attention to improving your ability to see if you can make achievements in this position. Once a friend took out a loan. He didn't like it at first, and he kept clamoring for a change of job. I told him that you should work hard for half a year, after all, you are still young! As a result, he really worked hard. In those six months, he became the sales champion of the company. At this time, do you think he will leave the company and still dislike the job? So likes and dislikes are sometimes not absolute. You might like it after a long time.
Job-hopping determines success or failure
? It seems that job-hopping is very simple, but to really make job-hopping a sharp weapon for our career development, what we absolutely have to do is that job-hopping is not to refuse our own growth, but to move to another company to realize our greater value after this company grows up!
