Zhang Jian was a figure in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.

Zhang Jian (1July, 8531~1August 24, 926), the word of the season, was named Sian. Nantong, Jiangsu, Tuzhushan, Changshu, Jiangsu, Changle Town, Zhiliting, Haimen, Jiangsu (now Changle Town, Haimen District, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province). He was the No.1 scholar in the 20th year of Guangxu (1894), an industrialist, politician, educator, calligrapher, financier and philanthropist in modern China, and one of the "five outstanding figures in Jiangsu".

Zhang Wei introduced

Zhang Jian was a pioneer in the early cotton textile field in China. He advocated "saving the country through industry" and "parents' education and mother's industry". He set up a series of cultural and educational undertakings in Nantong and created Tangzha Town Industrial Zone, which made Nantong one of the early industrial bases of Chinese national capitalism, and the urban construction followed the pattern of one city and three towns.

As an important commercial port in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the economic, cultural and political center of northern Jiangsu, Zhang Jian founded more than 20 enterprises and more than 370 schools in his life, which made valuable contributions to the rise of modern national industries and the development of education in China. In the 20th year of Guangxu (1894), Zhang Jian won the top prize in the examination and was awarded the editing of the Hanlin Academy.

In the 21st year of Guangxu (1895), Zhang Zhidong ordered the establishment of Sheng Da Cotton Mill. In the 28th year of Guangxu (1902), Tongzhou Normal School was founded. In the 31st year of Guangxu (1905), Nantong Museum was founded.
