General Hong married Zhang Wen (Zhang Xize, born in 19 19) on June, 1936.

There are eight children, three men and five women.

The eldest daughter Hong Xinghua (born in 1939, fostered during the Long March, and recovered in 195 1 year), and the second daughter Hong Wei.

The eldest son: Hong Hu (born in1June, 940) was the governor of Jilin Province.

Second son: Hong Bao, deputy commander and major general of Tianjin Garrison. (20 1 1 died in Beijing on June 6th)
