In October of the first year of Jing You (1034), Xie Tao died in Kaifeng at the age of 74. In March of the following year, Zi Xie will help Yunnan to return and be buried in Chunming Village (now Xiemu Village, Xinlian Township) in the east of Fuyang, southwest of Hangzhou. Ouyang Xiu wrote the epitaph and Fan Zhongyan wrote the tombstone.
