His main research interests are Chinese lexicology, grammar, dialects, sociolinguistics and teaching Chinese as a foreign language. At present, he is a professor, vice president, director of the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and doctoral supervisor at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
