Shimin road and Shimin school
Citizen road refers to a section of road about 200 meters west of Enning intersection. The name of Xiguan, an old road in Guangzhou, originated from the earliest new school in Guangdong Province-Citizen School. Citizen School is located in Baoqing New Street, Duobao Street (now the office compound of Guangdong Provincial Water Resources Department, No.39 Duobao Road). In the Republic of China, the road was expanded and officially renamed as Citizen Road. Until 1966 merged into Duobao Road, the road name no longer existed. Shimin Road, however, is closely related to the name of Shimin Academy and its founder Deng Jiarang, and has become an important part of the exotic complex formed by Guangzhou Xiguan and Malaysian Shiwu.
Maybe you don't know, this citizen school is the first private new school in Guangdong. According to historical records, in 1898, Deng Jiaren and Deng Jiarang (word uncle) founded Shimin School, which means that they are sensitive to current events.
The school not only imitated and introduced modern western science, but also set up two universities and primary schools in combination with China's reality, hired scholars with new ideas to teach and offered courses such as self-cultivation, Chinese language and geography, so there were many scholars. The school later developed the citizen bookstore and founded the citizen newspaper. 1902, the school sent Jin Zengcheng to lead 8 international students to study in Japan. After graduation, Jin Zengcheng successively served as President of Sun Yat-sen University, President of Guangzhou University and Director of Education Department of Guangdong Province, which was a far-sighted move at that time. 1905, the school was changed to Citizen Middle School, the earliest private middle school in Guangzhou, with its principal Deng Jiaren. After the Republic of China, it was renamed Shimin Middle School, and Deng Jiarang succeeded his brother as principal in 19 17. Deng Jiarang: the hero of Shiwu City, Malaysia Development Zone 190 1 year, Deng Jiarang recruited laborers from China to open a reclamation field along the Lanranrang River in Shiwu South, Malaysia, and was allowed to invest 400,000 yuan to establish a "new Guangdong Port Reclamation Field" as the "Hong Kong owner" (the highest person in charge of the reclamation field) and the person in charge of the Guangzhou office of the field. On March 1902 and 15, Deng Jiarang led more than 70 Guangdong agricultural workers to Shiwu, which was designated as "Port Opening Day". At that time, the poetry witch was barren, but under the leadership of Deng, the peasants and workers in the reclamation field made initial achievements through hard struggle. In order to further develop, Deng Jiarang sent his right-hand man back to China and recruited more than 830 farmers and workers from Sihui and Guangning to Shiwu. Later, the poem witch developed into a city, and people did not forget the contribution of pioneer Deng Jiarang. In order to commemorate his achievements, the fifteenth municipal government approved the naming of some streets in the industrial development zone after Deng Jiarang (Uncle Gong). Up to now, the city still retains such place names as "Deng Gong Tree Road", "Deng Gongshu Lane 1, Lane 2, Lane 3, Lane 4 and Lane 5". Tang Yonghong told reporters that many local Chinese communities in Shiwu City, such as Shiwu Guangdong Association and Shiwu Guanghui Zhao Hui Association, have already hung up the portrait of Deng Jiarang. In the Shiwu National Cultural Center, a bronze statue of Deng Jiarang was also cast for people to pay tribute to.
