Duan died in Shanghai hospital. At that time, he had lived in seclusion in Shanghai for more than three years. The day before, he suddenly had a stomachache and was taken to the hospital at once. The specific stomach trouble is not recorded. It should be that the treatment was ineffective and he died the next day.

On the second day after Duan's death, the Executive Yuan decided to bury him in Zhangzhou, and on the fourth day, he was buried according to Buddhist etiquette. On that day, flags were flown at half-mast in Shanghai. At that time, Lin Sen, Ju Zheng and others personally went to mourn. Chiang Kai-shek also allocated 200,000 yuan to buy him a cemetery in Huangshan, and even set up a special funeral preparation team. However, Duan Hongye, Duan's eldest son, did not agree to bury my father in Huangshan Mountain. Duan's family dug a hole and buried him in the western suburbs of Beiping. Chiang Kai-shek was busy with the war and had long forgotten it. For 28 years, Duan's former friends and subordinates helped him and his wife's coffin move to Shuizi District in the west of Wan 'an Cemetery in Xiangshan, Beijing.

Duan's tomb is there now. Very small, no guardrail. Only 20 words were written on the tombstone, and his will was on the back.

Why did Duan and Feng turn against each other?

Duan He is two of the famous "Three Heroes" of Beiyang Warlords, namely the tiger and the dog. Later, they became Yuan Shikai's confidant and right-hand man. They are the leaders of Anhui Department and the leaders of the direct line. At first, they were comrades in arms.

Beiyangjie is an outstanding graduate of Tianjin armament school, among which Duan is said to have the best grades and should be a university tyrant. Duan studied at the German Military Academy, while Feng visited the Japanese military. Later, they all participated in Yuan Shikai's station training, entered his door, participated in the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion, served as the overseer of the Beiyang Military Academy, and helped Yuan Shikai force the Qing emperor to abdicate.

Yuan Shikai can be said to be Duan and Feng's Bole, and he is grateful to them. Relatively speaking, Duan's position in Beavon is high. When Yuan Shikai proclaimed himself emperor, both of them opposed it, and Duan also protested by resigning. Feng publicly called on Yuan Shikai to abdicate.

After Yuan Shikai's death, Duan was in charge of the military and political power in the north, serving as prime minister, Feng as vice president of the south, and Li resigned to succeed the president. The two men have contradictions in unifying the north and the south. Duan advocated force and Feng advocated peace. In fact, they all have the purpose of strengthening their factions. So there was a second government dispute between them. As a result, Feng died of illness soon after he stepped down. Although Duan resigned, he was still in charge of state affairs, so Duan won.
