Molecular synthesis and research on liquid crystal polymers. Zhou Qifeng put forward the concept of "shell-type liquid crystal polymer" and proved it from the perspectives of chemical synthesis and physical properties. Shell liquid crystal polymer is a new type of polymer material. Its molecular weight and molecular structure can be controlled by living radical polymerization as required, and its performance features are adjustable molecular chain rigidity, unique phase structure and performance, and wide temperature range of stable liquid crystal phase. Zhou Qifeng's other contributions include the research on the substituent effect of liquid crystal polymers, the scientific principle that metastable liquid crystal polymers can be transformed into thermodynamically stable liquid crystal polymers by copolymerization or increasing molecular weight, and the earliest synthetic thermotropic liquid crystal polymers.
