Appreciation of English Translation of Li Qingzhao's Slow Voice and Whispering

Sound Slow is a famous sentence that shook the ci world after Li Qingzhao's Nandu. Through the description of autumn scenery's autumn love, it expresses the sorrow of the country's ruin and the decline of the world, which has the characteristics of the times. Structurally, it breaks the limitations of the upper and lower films, and the whole word focuses on rendering sadness, such as weeping and complaining, touching. The following are some English translations of the words in Slow Sound compiled by me for your reference.

Example 1, looking for, deserted, sad.

Lin translation: sodim, sodark, /sodense, sodull, /sodamp, sodank, /sodead!

Yang translation: search, search,/sad silence,/desolate, painful, miserable.

Xu Translation: Me? I feel I have to look for something missing. Everything around me looks gloomy and bleak. /I can't find anything that makes me happy.

Xu translation: I look for what I missed; /I don't know what that is. /I feel so sad, so sad,/so lonely, no joy.

Analysis: 1) Lin's translations all use monosyllabic words with alliteration, and the choice of words is progressive, which can be described as originality. ? Dim? And then what? Darkness? It means it's getting late. Dense? And then what? Dull? What is shown is a deep and unchangeable sadness and loss, and then what? Wet? And then what? Wet? Render a cold and miserable atmosphere, finally? Dead? The climax embodies the poet's despair, helplessness and sadness. The translation is concise and rich in connotation.

2) Yang translated seven adjectives, corresponding to seven pairs of reduplicated words, which vividly showed the changes of the poet's feelings, from the outside to the inside, step by step.

3) Comparatively speaking, Xu's translation is not short enough. The translator found another way to poeticize the words, but because the sentences were too long and the translation was too clear, the artistic conception of the original words was lost.

4) Xu Yi added a theme and made it clear what he was looking for. What did I miss? It seems too straightforward, and it lacks the euphemistic and hazy feeling of the original word. Translators choose rhymes very carefully. Miss? In Chinese? Hey? Sounds like it? Cheer? With what? Hey? Similar.

It's hard not to breathe when it's warm and cold.

The weather, sometimes warm and sometimes cold,/is harder to forget than ever!

Yang Translator: Forget it? It's warm, but it's still chilly, so it's hard to stay healthy.

Even the weather proved to be the most unfriendly. It was warm, but suddenly it turned cold again. /A complete rest-the worst goal.

How difficult it is to stay healthy in this cold ling!

Analysis: these two sentences show that the weather has suddenly warmed up, but the chill is still there. The changeable weather also affects people's mood. At this time, the poet's life is wandering and his heart is full of worries. The unpredictable weather makes it more difficult to rest and cultivate.

1) Lin translation? What is the most difficult thing to interest? Translation? The hardest thing to forget? , and the meaning of the original word is quite different.

2) Yang's translation completely presents the artistic conception and significance of the original words.

3) Xu's translation is easy to understand, but not implicit enough.

4) Xu translated and adjusted the word order of the original words. The lingering cold? Is that clear? Is it still cold? , but there is no explanation? How warm is it? , lost the original information.

Example 3: Three glasses of light wine, how can we beat him? It's late in the wind.

How can a cup of hot wine keep out the cold?

Yang translation: three or two glasses of light wine,/how can you stop the early morning wind?

Xu Yi: Three glasses of thin wine can't resist the evening breeze.

Glass after glass/wine is so dry/oh, how can I/endure the dusty/fast wind?

Analysis: 1) Three cups and two lamps are just a general concept, and there are various translation methods, which can be translated by four translators.

2) the original text? Enemy? Clever words and vivid images, four translators, right? Enemy? Manipulation, completely different. Comparatively speaking, what did Xu translate? Deal with? Xu translation? Endure? Not strong enough, not as good as the other two translators? Block it? And then what? Objection? .

3) Three translators kept rhetorical questions in the original text. Sentences such as rhetorical questions, rhetorical questions and exclamations are all strong, and the general translation practice is to be consistent with the original sentence. As far as translation style is concerned, Xu's translation style is different, especially? Oh, how could I? Make translation more English-style.

Exodus 4. The geese passed by, but they were sad, but they met again in the old days.

I know the geese flying overhead:/My old friend,/I can't bring back the memories of the past!

The geese flew by, and what about me? My heart is broken; But I recognize them as my old friends.

Xu translation: ego, falling into sorrow, a flying geese has been thrown. But with them, I became very familiar with them.

My heart is broken, alas,/watching geese fly by,/because they are my old things.

Analysis: 1) Since ancient times, Hongyan has been an important tool for people's correspondence. The separation of relatives, the broken mountains and rivers, the pain and the sight of geese flying by are all bad news, let alone old acquaintances. Old grievances and new pains come to mind, which only increases sadness.

2) Although there are only twelve words in this sentence, the emotion is constantly changing. Throughout the four Chinese versions, most of them can't convey the deep meaning of the text, and the relationship between goose, sadness and old acquaintance is not closely expressed. Only Lin's translation is unique and has made great changes to the original text, especially the last sentence? Don't bring back old memories! ? Tell the reason why old acquaintances increase sadness.
