In May 2007, Yao Yao's father died of myocardial infarction, and the whole family lost their only source of income. Yao Yao, once an administrative assistant, also worked in a beverage store, doing odd jobs to make a living, helping her mother who did odd jobs to take care of her younger sister who was in junior high school and her younger brother in primary school [1]. In 2008, Yao Yao got the opportunity to be an outdoor shooting model. Less than two months after filming, Yao Yao was discovered by agent Jonathan and entered the art field [2].

Yao Yao, with the so-called "children's eyes and big breasts", was given the opportunity to host an electronic game program in 2008. She was once one of the assistant hosts of CCTV's electronic game information program "Digital Game King". Soon, the series of advertisements of "Sha Da Da" released by 30 Digital Technology, the publisher of the online game "Killing Online", was deliberately highlighted, and because this series of advertisements became an instant hit, it also attracted the attention of the National Communications Commission because of its "materialized women" component. At the beginning of 2009, Yao Yao officially became the host of "The King of Digital Games", the youngest among the major program hosts at that time.
