Maqun Street is located in the south of Qixia District, Nanjing, at the foot of Zijin Mountain, with an area of 17.75 square kilometers. The east is adjacent to Xianlin University Town and Jiangning District, and the other three sides are surrounded by Xuanwu District.

Horses have a long history, and the post road in the Qin Dynasty passed through Ma Lao Street. More than 900 years ago, Ma Qun set up Jinling Post Station in Song Dynasty. In A.D. 1373, Hongwu, the ancestor of Ming Dynasty, set up a horse-herding organization here to herd war horses and imperial horses, and raised a large number of tribute horses according to their coat color, hence the name of the horses.
