1982 received a bachelor's degree in English literature and language from Sichuan Normal University, 1986 received a master's degree in world history from Sichuan University, and stayed on as a teacher. 1987 received a doctorate from Oxford University in England, and 1995 received a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University. 1998 returned to China to teach at Sichuan university, and now he is a first-class professor of "2 14" and a member of the academic Committee of Sichuan university. In 2003, he was hired as distinguished professor, 1999-2000 visiting researcher at Oxford University, half-year visiting professor at Tamkang University in Taiwan Province Province in 2002 and visiting professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong 10- 12 in 2004. From July to September, 2006, he was a visiting professor at Paris Teachers College. In August, 2007, he was a visiting professor at Max Weber Institute of Sociology at University of Paris X. In September, 2007, he was a visiting professor at newhall College of Cambridge University.
1990-94 is a member of the American Historical Society, 1990-95 is a member of the American Society for Asian Studies, and 1990-97 is a member of the British Society for China Studies. Since 2005, he has been the executive director of China Historical Theory Research Association.
Since 1998, more than 60 articles (departments) have been published, and the papers have been reprinted many times by publications such as People's Congress Revenge Printing Materials, Abstract of University Journals of Liberal Arts and Xinhua Digest. Academic monographs published in recent years include Afghan History-Collision and Integration of Civilizations published by Sanmin Bookstore in Taiwan Province Province, and China Seeking Modernity published by Macmillan/palgrave Publishing House? -Cultural discourse in English academic works in the late 20th century. The latter book was published in many countries in Europe and America, and was collected by Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University and Taiwan Province Provincial University. In 2006, A Brief History of Western Art was reprinted twice, and in 2007, it was selected as "300 Original Books in China" by the General Administration of Press and Publication.
Participated in important overseas and international academic conferences: 1992 delivered a paper at the academic seminar of American Asia Society in Los Angeles, gave a keynote speech at the international academic conference of Lund University in Sweden in June 2000, made a short-term study visit at Guembra University in Portugal in 2002, and delivered a speech at the international academic seminar on East-West Studies in Hong Kong in 2002, and chaired a group. In May, 2004, he was invited to submit a paper "The Formation and Problems of China Modernity" to the China Academic Conference on New Perspectives of Modernity held by Taiwan Province Provincial University. In September, 2005, he delivered a keynote speech at the second international seminar of the International Forum on World Civilization of Macau Polytechnic University, and won the theme paper award. In September 2006, he gave a lecture report on "China's modernization and the influence of Europe" at the Max Weber Institute of Sociology in Paris. In September 2006, he gave an academic lecture on "The influence of China's cultural values on economic development". On October 24-30, 2007, at the invitation of the Italian Ministry of Culture, he attended an academic seminar in Naples to commemorate the bicentennial of garibaldi's birth and read a paper.
At present, he is engaged in the research of the national social science fund project "The influence of Chinese and European traditional culture on the development of science and technology".
