Becker 1930 12 was born in Pennsylvania, USA, and received bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees from Princeton University and University of Chicago. At the age of 30, he became a professor at Columbia University. Since 1970, he has taught at the University of Chicago and served as the head of the Department of Economics. Becker has successively won the famous Clark Award, Cederman Award, Wei Tynsky Award and Mei Lite Award.

Becker is the main representative of the Chicago School in the United States and an important member of the neo-liberal economic school. During his decades of research and teaching career, he initiated a unique "Becker Revolution" with new family economics, human capital theory and criminal economics as its main contents.
