Can lettuce and pineapple be eaten?
I can't. Queen of the Andes, alias lettuce, puya pineapple and centennial flower, is a dicotyledonous plant of angiosperms and cannot be eaten. It is called the Queen of Nong 'an Mountains. The preservation of the Queen of the Andes is attributed to a huge sub-population, which can reach 800,000 individuals, and this sub-population accounts for most of the global total of this plant. Bolivia estimates that there are 30,000-35,000 strains in its territory. Although a mature plant can produce 800-120,000 seeds, this species only produces seeds once before it dies, and it lasts for more than 80 years. When spreading pollen, the harsh conditions in mountainous areas will affect pollinators and lead to almost zero germination rate.
