From 1979, he entered Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University) to study architecture. 1983 to 1986, studied architectural history and theory and obtained a master's degree. 1997- 1998, visiting scholar at Zurich University of Technology, Switzerland. 1988-2004 as a senior visiting scholar in Japanese, Hongkong, Australian and Singaporean universities, as well as Tsinghua and Peking University. 1992 received special government allowance from the State Council of People's Republic of China (PRC) (China).
