Nanjing East Road Street used to be a field in the northern suburb of Shanghai County. In the 28th year of Daoguang (1848), it was all included in the British Concession. 1953 was established as the fourth office of Laozha District. 1956 Laozha District was merged into Huangpu District and renamed as Nanjing East Road Office in Huangpu District. 1960 merged into Guizhou Road Office and established Nanjing East Road Sub-district Office in Huangpu District. 1August, 988, Nanjing East Road and Changsha Road streets were cancelled and Nanjing East Road streets were established.
